Benny has been living on his own since he was 14. Now 21, his relationship with his parents is unstable at best. Benny has gotten used to supporting himself. He pays his rent and other needs from his salary as a factory worker. But Benny dreams of doing better for himself. He would like to earn more and to move ahead in life.

To this end, he is aiming to enrol in a welding course. Completing this six-month program will allow him to take on more responsible jobs, with better pay. Benny is conscientious and reliable and he uses his money carefully. But he is unable to stretch his earnings to cover the cost of the course, despite the promise that it holds for him.
