As her husband sat in jail, Bella, 56, raised her two children (now adults) on her own. Because of her health issues – including fibromyalgia, vision and hearing problems, and asthma – Bella is unable to work. She relies on a government stipend to cover her expenses.

The family lives in public housing and struggles to make ends meet. To make life even more difficult, Bella’s stove and oven no longer function. She has been cooking at her sister’s apartment, but this is not a sustainable solution. Bella needs a new appliance but does not have the money to pay for it.
