Computer for Anat
Anat’s story is both heartbreaking and inspiring. Anat, 21, is one of 13 siblings, six of whom currently live with their parents in a crowded 3-room apartment. Her father runs a family-owned grocery shop and her mother, who suffers from psychological issues, is unemployed. Anat’s father is a difficult man. While not physically abusive, he shouts and humiliates his wife and children and while he has the financial means to provide for his family, he doesn’t meet their needs. Anat’s mother is a weak and emotionally distant woman who provides no support for her children at all. Over the years, Anat and her siblings have turned to each other for support and have forged a strong bond.
Anat, despite her difficult upbringing, completed 12 years of schooling and all of her matriculation exams. She then did a year of National Service. While growing up, Anat worked in the family shop in order to help her father. She received no salary. Since completing her National Service, Anat has worked in an ice-cream shop in order to earn money.
The relationship between Anat’s parents has deteriorated over the years, the house often filled with shouting and cursing. Anat spends a good deal of time at her married sistér’s house in order to avoid the tension at home.
Anat is an upbeat, intelligent, pleasant and talented individual. She dreams of becoming a nurse and is currently studying for her university entrance exams. Anat is desperate for a computer in order to help her with her studies. Unfortunately, this is an expense that she cannot cover and which her father will not help with. This determined young woman deserves our help so that she can build a meaningful and independent life for herself.
