Refrigerator for Rafi

Rafi, 58, is a tragic figure. His parents immigrated to Israel with him and his seven siblings when he was a year old. When Rafi was seven, his father died, leaving the family in financial turmoil. Rafi was taken in by an uncle in Tel Aviv. By the age of 13, Rafi was using drugs and only completed eight years of schooling. Over the years, Rafi has spent periods of time in prison for drug possession. In 2008, his mother died leaving him without any family support. Rafi has been living on the streets and battling depression. He also suffers from hepatitis, respiratory dysfunction and a chronic leg injury which makes walking difficult.
Social services recently found Rafi a public housing unit. They are trying to help him rehabilitate his life. The apartment is furnished with only a bed and a closet. In order to move in to the unit, Rafi desperately needs a refrigerator but clearly cannot afford to buy one. It would be wonderful to give him the opportunity to turn his life around.
