Laptop for Yotam
Sofia, 51, moved to Israel when she was 32. Her son, Yotam, was born a few years later. Last year her husband left the family and moved back to Russia; neither Sofia nor Yotam has any contact with him. Sofia and Yotam are in Israel alone, with no extended family.
Sofia had to stop working ten years ago when her back gave out. She has undergone several operations but they were not successful. She has trouble standing and is in constant pain. Sofia and Yotam’s only income is her handicapped stipend. They live frugally and try to stretch this as far as possible, but it can be hard for them to pay their monthly expenses.
Now 15, Yotam needs a computer. His school requires it for research and for homework assignments, and he cannot keep up in class without one. However, their budget cannot cover the cost of a computer.
