Household items for residents of Beit Shikma

On December 11, Storm Byron caused the Shikma stream to overflow, flooding Moshav Beit Shikma and damaging more than 40 homes. Water levels rose to 1.5 meters, with powerful waves of 1.5 – 2 meters surging into houses, trapping families for hours and destroying homes, farms, and infrastructure.

One mother was swept by the current while trying to reach her elderly parents, clinging to a window as rescue teams struggled to reach her. Her children were rescued separately by volunteers. By morning, the family had lost everything, furniture, appliances, clothing, and personal belongings.

Another family includes an elderly couple, the husband seriously ill and cared for by his wife, a kindergarten aide. Behind them live their son, his wife, and two young children. When the flood hit, both homes were destroyed, walls, electricity, sewage, and all belongings. Volunteers helped clear the wreckage, but the family now faces the daunting task of rebuilding from scratch.

Together with the Ashkelon Regional Social Services, we have identified 20 of the most severely affected families. We are assisting these families with basic needs, such as beds, ovens, washing machines, and refrigerators, totaling 200,000 NIS.
