Evening Programming for Families of Reservists
A community to lean on
Since October 7, families across Israel have been carrying an unimaginable weight. In Harish, where around 600 fathers are serving in the reserves, it’s the mothers and children who are holding down the home front – often alone, often overwhelmed.
That’s where the Mischakia steps in.
What is the Mischakia?
What began as a grassroots initiative at the start of the war has grown into a vital source of support for reservist families. Since October 7, the volunteer-run program has become a lifeline for dozens of reservist families, including more than 120 children.
Hosted at the Tiferet Ami Center – a space operated by volunteers since the start of the war – the Mischakia is a warm, welcoming haven. Once a week, from 4-7pm, it opens its doors to provide entertainment and workshops, as well as a coffee corner for mothers and home-cooked meals, so children can return home happy, fed, and ready for bed.
However, as the war drags on, burnout is setting in. Volunteers are exhausted, and the need for sustained support continues to grow.
Ten Gav’s role:
Ten Gav is proud to be funding the ongoing costs of the Mischakia this summer (July and August), ensuring that the space, supplies, programming, and meals continue without interruption. With your help, we can bring in professional vendors to run quality activities and provide nourishing dinners, giving volunteers a much-needed break and reservist families the support they deserve.
Our goal is to not only provide relief, but to sustain the strong supportive community that these reservist families can continue to lean on.
