Computer for Tamar
Life until now has not been simple for Tamar, 19, but she is doing her best to move on. Tamar’s mother was in an abusive marriage, and the couple divorced six years ago. Tamar’s mom was left to raise six children (today ages 9-19) on her own. She works as a kindergarten assistant and supports her family on her small salary and her monthly government stipends. Tamar’s father tragically drowned a few months ago.
A year and a half ago, Tamar was in a terrible accident. She and a friend rented ATVs, and their vehicle overturned. Tamar’s leg was shattered, and her friend suffered a head injury. As the driver, Tamar was sued by the government for renting a vehicle without a driver’s license. She is now paying off her sentence in community service hours.
Needless to say, the trauma of her father’s death and her accident left Tamar struggling. She is trying to get back on her feet though and has begun studying towards a degree in bookkeeping and teaching. She also recently joined a social services program aimed at helping young people break into the job market.
Tamar is excelling in her studies. Her most pressing need right now is a computer since classes have moved online. Tamar cannot afford a computer and without one, she may have to put her dreams on hold.
