Beds for Ruth’s Children
Some stories are so tragic that they are almost unbelievable. Ruth, 33 years old, is single-handedly raising 7 children – ages 1-13 – in dire living conditions.
Ruth suffered years of physical, sexual and emotional abuse at the hands of her husband Yaakov. In 2017, with the help and encouragement of social services, Ruth finally filed a criminal complaint against her husband. He was imprisoned and no longer lives with his family. He also provides no financial support for them, and Ruth has been forced to live on a shoestring budget as she raises her children alone.
The family’s apartment down South is small and cramped. Ruth deals with leaks, peeling paint, lack of heat and lives with only the very bare necessities. Her income is comprised of Bituach Leumi payments and a stipend for one special needs child. Her children, three of whom were removed from the home, are all undergoing therapy and counseling for the traumas they have experienced at the hands of their father. Through it all, Ruth attempts to clothe and feed them and regularly visit those who don’t live at home.
At the very least, Ruth would like her children to sleep on sturdy beds, as opposed to the mattresses on the floor that now serve as their beds. No one deserves any less.
