Tikva, 55, and Chaim, 63, struggle to make ends meet. Chaim doesn’t work and receives disability payments because he suffered from alcoholism in the past. Tikva used to work as an aide to the elderly but due to health issues, including cancer and diabetes, she too is no longer working.
The couple supports themselves and their 13-year-old son on their monthly government stipends. Social services helps them wherever they can.
Recently, the family’s cramped apartment was invaded by bedbugs. Much of the furniture was ruined, including their son Yoni’s bed. He has been sleeping on a borrowed mattress on the floor.
Every growing boy deserves to sleep on a bed, but Tikva and Chaim cannot afford to buy Yoni a new one.
