Bed for Nurit
Nurit, 37, moved to Israel from Ethiopia when she was eight years old. She married, had a daughter (now 17) and eventually divorced. Nurit has always struggled financially and has supported herself and her daughter on a monthly government stipend.
This past year, Nurit joined a social services program aimed at helping people break out of the cycle of poverty. She is working towards improving her financial situation by finding appropriate employment and is motivated to build an independent life for herself.
At the moment, Nurit and her daughter live in a one-room apartment and share a single bed. A double bed would certainly improve their quality of life but obviously, this is an expense that Nurit cannot currently afford.
