Until last January, Olga had a steady job as a cleaner. After a serious bout of apoplexy, however, the doctor ordered her to stop working. Since then, her health has deteriorated. She is taking medication, but it is not helping much.

Olga and her 14-year-old daughter, Alexa, live in a small public housing unit. It is crowded and in poor shape. Neither Olga nor Alexa has a bed. Olga sleeps on a mattress on the living room floor, but she wants more for her daughter. Olga understands the benefit that a good night’s sleep would have for Alexa. She cannot, however, afford to buy her daughter the bed she needs.
