Beds for Lena’s children

Lena, 29, has two small children, ages two and four. After their father was stabbed a few years ago, he needed several operations and physical therapy. Lena says that he never recovered from the incident. He left the family and became addicted to gambling. He can no longer hold a steady job and pays no child support. His visits are rare and erratic. The situation confuses and upsets the kids. Lena worked until the Corona crisis hit, using her very small income to support the family. Now, she has only her unemployment stipend. She cannot even think about looking for a new job because she has no childcare.

Lena’s children sleep on used beds that are so broken as to be dangerous. Their apartment is small, so Lena needs a couch that opens into two beds, one for each child. Unfortunately, she does not have enough money to buy one. These young children deserve a good night’s sleep.
