Pool Memberships for 83 kids from Beit Shemesh
The Department of Social Services in Beit Shemesh has requested our help to provide 83 children memberships to their local pool this summer!
Maya and her children are one of the families we want to help. Here’s her story:
Maya, a young widow, lives in Bet Shemesh with her 5 children, aged 2 – 7.
Four years ago, tragedy struck their home. Maya’s late husband, Dor, was diagnosed with Cancer. Dor had always worked full-time and was the primary breadwinner for the family. Once Dor fell ill and treatments started consuming their lives, Dor had to stop working.
Before Dor was diagnosed, Maya also worked part-time, running her own business. This was put on hold as she cared for her husband as well as the needs of their small children.
This dramatic shift in their lifestyle caused their financial situation to take a rapid turn downhill.
After a two-year battle with cancer, Dor passed away. He left Maya alone to look after their 5 young children; the youngest was just a baby.
Today Social Services is helping Maya and her children in whatever ways they can. They focus on obtaining assistance for basic needs, such as; rent, bills and food. Unfortunately, there is no room for extras like summer daycare and pool memberships.
The summer days are long and hot. If Maya’s five children could spend the hot summer months with friends in a fun summer camp environment, there is no doubt it would go a long way to bringing happiness and healing into their lives.
*Beit Shemesh is a city in the center of Israel of approximately 150,000. Almost half of the city’s population, an astonishing 46%, comprises children under the age of 14.
