Refrigerator for Vered
Vered, 37, is in the midst of a divorce. She is a mother of two children, ages 7 and 9. The divorce has been very emotionally challenging for Vered who was financially abused during her marriage and had no independence. Her ex-husband does not provide any financial help, and she is struggling to adjust to her difficult situation.
To make matters worse, Vered recently began suffering emotional abuse by her ex who ignores her, yells at her and
only responds to her when he feels like it.
Vered is trying her hardest to improve her situation. She is now participating in a social services program that assists families living in poverty to improve the quality of their lives. This program guides the participants in all aspects of life and is helping Vered make significant changes in order to gain financial independence. She is also getting professional counselling to help her find a job that earns a greater salary, is closer to home (as she does not have a car) and is
suitable to her skill set.
Vered currently earns 3500 shekels a month, which is barely enough to buy food and other basic needs for her family. The program she participates in provides her with food baskets and school supplies for the children, as well as parental guidance. Needless to say, the children are also suffering emotionally from the split in their family.
Vered is doing her best to stand on her own two feet, but it will clearly take time. Currently, the family desperately needs a new refrigerator, but Vered has no means by which to make this essential purchase.
