Fridge for Sonya and her Elderly Mother
Alma is 93. She moved from the Ukraine to Israel 18 years ago with her daughter, Sonya, 60, but neither speaks Hebrew well. Although they live in great need and have no outside support, relying solely on social security payments, they are not in regular contact with social services because neither woman is comfortable asking for help.
Alma has a host of medical problems, including a broken spine that makes it almost impossible for her to walk. They live on the second floor of a building with no elevator, which means that Alma cannot leave the apartment.
Their apartment is very small and poorly furnished; the little they own is worn or broken. Of their many needs, the most pressing is a refrigerator, for which they cannot afford.
