Electric Bed for Oleg
After coming to Israel, Oleg, 61, and his wife, Viktoria, 59, earned enough to support themselves. He worked as a cleaner and a mechanic; she in a day care. But they both have physical problems that have grown worse over the years.
Viktoria has developed contact dermatitis, which flares up easily. After surgery three years ago to remove a cyst, she has suffered from weakness and dizziness that have made holding a job difficult. Currently, she is working as a part-time aide to the elderly. Surgery for an ulcer removed half of Oleg’s stomach and eventually, his gall bladder as well. Complications from surgery have left him with spine and neck problems so severe that he can no longer hold his head straight.
With almost no income, but a mortgage and high medical costs, the couple frequently does not have enough money for food. Their bed is unstable, and the mattress is worn and sagging. Oleg needs a sturdy electric bed that will allow him to sit up, and a mattress that will support his head. Oleg and Viktoria would both benefit from the more comfortable night’s sleep that this would bring, but they do not have enough money to buy the bed that would make all the difference.
