Beds for Liza and Peter’s children
Liza and Peter’s current situation is heartbreaking. The couple immigrated to Israel from Eastern Europe seven years ago. They have three young children, ages 4-8.
Peter, 45, was working until a serious work accident left him with a severely injured leg. He underwent surgery and is still recovering. He is unable to work and is waiting to be approved for disability payments.
In the meantime, Liza, 33, is the sole breadwinner in the family. She works as an aide for the elderly. During the Corona crisis, Liza had to stop working in order to be home with the kids; there was a period were neither she nor Peter were working. They incurred heavy debts and are still in dire financial straits.
Liza and Peter have still not acclimated to life in Israel. Neither of them speak Hebrew, and life has been an uphill battle since they arrived. Social services helps the family in whatever ways they can, but it isn’t enough.
The family is currently living in a two-room apartment and two of the children are sleeping together in one bed. If Liza and Peter could get help buying a bunk bed, their innocent, growing children could get a decent night’s sleep.
