Wig for Dana

Dana’s story is heartbreaking. Dana, 60, grew up in an abusive home. At a young age, she married a man who turned out to be a drug addict and who abused her emotionally, sexually and physically. As a result of his violent behavior, she was hospitalized several times and lost her spleen. Eventually, Dana escaped with her son to a battered women’s shelter and finally divorced her husband.
Working as a secretary, Dana managed to raise her son alone. Today, he is married with five children of his own. Dana’s troubles are far from over, however.
Last year, Dana was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. She needed to undergo a bone marrow transplant and in order to do so, had to have all of her teeth extracted. These various procedures left Dana with heavy debts. She is now undergoing treatment once a week, and the various side effects have been debilitating. When Dana lost her hair, a donor provided her with a wig. Dana had an allergic reaction to the synthetic hair and developed burns on her scalp. The doctors told her it was important that she wear only natural wigs. This is an expense that Dana certainly can’t afford, but a new wig would certainly do wonders for her self-esteem.
