Washing Machine for Eliya
Eliya has seven children ranging from age three to age 15. They have seen a lot of violence in their young lives, most of it from their father, directed at their mother.
About a year ago, they divorced, after her repeated attempts to live safely with him failed. Most of the children are suffering from emotional trauma from the situation, and Eliya feels it important to be available to them whenever they need her. Thus she has been unable to work.
The family relies on various government stipends, which are insufficient to cover the needs of a family of eight. Social services have added whatever possible, including some family therapy, in which Eliya participates fully.
But recently her washing machine broke, requiring her to wash all of the family’s clothing by hand as she does not have the budget for a new one.
