Refrigerator for Shira
Shira, 56, is going through a particularly rough time. Eight years ago, she began divorce proceedings against her husband. She had suffered through years of physical and verbal abuse and finally had enough. The process was long and painful. It was so difficult that at some point, Shira gave up some of her property rights and her claims for child support. She was left to support herself and her three children, one of whom suffers from epilepsy, on her own.
Shira is in a highly unstable financial and emotional state. Social services is helping her as best they can – mostly with food vouchers and hot meals.
Shira’s most pressing need right now is a new refrigerator. Her current one is ten years old and beyond repair. Needless to say, she cannot afford this extra expense.
