Refrigerator for Ronit
Ronit is an example of someone who has undergone hardship but continues to strive. The mother of two daughters, Ronit found herself in a violent and abusive marriage. Ten years ago, she and her children were moved to a shelter for battered women where they lived for a year. Soon after getting out, she and her husband divorced.
After her divorce, Ronit worked as a secretary in a factory. Finding herself in dire financial straits, she and her children moved into one bedroom in her parents’ apartment. Eventually, they moved into their own apartment.
Ronit desperately wants to improve her standard of living and began studying for a degree in educational administration. She is also studying to earn a certificate to teach youth at risk. Much of her tuition is paid for by various scholarships. Ronit is eager to gain more skills and find a more respectable and high-paying job. While learning, she has also been working part time as a bus liason for the Ministry of Education. This is a woman who wants to make a change.
While doing all of this, she struggles to make ends meet on her meager salary and a small sum of child support. Her biggest need right now is a new refrigerator as her old one is broken and cannot be repaired. This is an expense she simply can’t afford right now.
