Refrigerator for Nurit
Nurit, 45, is struggling right now but is determined to move forward with her life and build a brighter future for her one-year-old daughter, Dana.
Nurit was married for three years. During that time, she tried to get pregnant but was unsuccessful. Eventually, she and her husband divorced.
Last year, Nurit unexpectedly became pregnant from a casual acquaintance. She is no longer in touch with Dana’s father, and he pays no child support.
Nurit found it challenging to work and be a single mother to a newborn baby. She began to amass debts, and her financial situation quickly plummeted. In order to save money, Nurit moved in with her elderly and ailing parents. This wasn’t an easy situation either, as she spent a lot of time and energy caring for them.
To make matters even more difficult, Nurit suffers from a herniated disc. She cannot carry heavy loads and climbing stairs is difficult for her. She is awaiting surgery and has applied for disability. In the meantime, Nurit is supporting herself and Dana on her monthly unemployment stipend.
Five months ago, Nurit was approved for government-subsidized housing. She has also joined a social services program that helps young parents adjust to their new role. More than ever, Nurit is now motivated to build an independent life for herself and her daughter.
Nurit’s new apartment is sparsely furnished, and she is desperate for a refrigerator, an expense she cannot afford. Without a working refrigerator, it will be impossible for her and Dana to survive on their own.
