Refrigerator for Naya
Naya, 34, is a highly motivated young woman who needs a helping hand.
Naya is raising four young children (ages 6-9) on her own. For years, Naya was abused, both physically and emotionally, by her husband. Four years ago, she took her children and ran to a battered women’s shelter. They lived there for seven months.
Today, Naya and her husband are divorced. He was recently released from prison and is in a rehab program.
Naya works full-time as a nursery school teacher. Her income, along with a monthly government stipend, doesn’t cover the family’s monthly cost-of-living. Naya also has debts to repay. Though she is trying her hardest, there are months where Naya struggles to put food on the table.
Naya is determined to break this cycle of poverty; she has joined a social services program that helps impoverished families build a sound financial plan.
In the meantime, however, Naya’s refrigerator has stopped working and cannot be repaired. Her mother, who lives close by, has been storing the family’s food. This is obviously not a long-term solution.
As Naya tries to stand on her own two feet, she needs our help so that she and her children can eat fresh, healthy food.
