Refrigerator for Iris
Iris, 45, is a divorced mother of five children. She receives no help from their father and is raising them on her own. Iris immigrated to Israel from Ethiopia, and her mother died on the journey. She is one of 10 siblings with whom she is in touch, but they are unable to help her financially.
Iris isn’t looking for handouts. She is a city employee and works hard, both at her job and at home. She is optimistic, motivated and a very dedicated mother. Unfortunately, Iris’ low salary and the small government stipend she receives are not enough to cover her expenses.
Right now, her greatest need is a new refrigerator. Iris has to seal her current one with scotch tape since the rubber strip around the door is torn. The thermostat is broken as well, resulting in the food spoiling on a regular basis. Five children and no working refrigerator is a situation that cannot continue.
