Refrigerator for Alma
Alma, 24, is raising her 11-month-old son on her own. Alma and her ex-husband had a very rocky marriage that included frequent fighting and verbal abuse. Once Alma understood that her husband wouldn’t invest in the relationship, she left him.
Alma and her son moved in with her mother. Since she has a very unstable relationship with her mother, she found her own apartment and will move in as soon as it is minimally furnished.
Until she was put on bed rest during her pregnancy, Alma was working at a supermarket. Her husband, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, pays no child support and is estranged from his family. Currently, Alma is supporting herself and her son on government stipends. Once her baby is in day care next year, Alma plans on looking for a steady job. She is eager to build an independent life for herself and her son.
In the meantime, in order to move into her own apartment, Alma desperately needs a refrigerator. Without one, she clearly cannot live on her own.
