Meir’s story is tragic. Meir, now 25, has been recognized by social services since he was a child. He suffered from behavioral and emotional issues, as well as cognitive delays. Meir was eventually removed from his parents’ home and sent to learn in a school that specialized in children with psychological disorders. At some point during his course of rehabilitation, Meir removed himself from the system and tried to survive independently. When Meir began planning his army service, it was discovered that he suffered from a serious psychotic disorder. He began a course of medication which he adhered to on and off. Eventually, he was hospitalized against his will by order of the courts and diagnosed as a schizophrenic.

Meir now takes his medications regularly and is trying to rehabilitate his life. He is doing job training and attempting to become more independent. Unfortunately, Meir suffers from a number of physical ailments, among them severe swelling of his legs. This condition makes it difficult for him to work. His family has had to make adjustments to their home in order to allow him to move around as easily as possible. Their finances are stretched to the limit, and they have trouble making ends meet each month. Meir has been told that he could benefit from compression pants. These would control the swelling, thereby allowing him to function on a day-to-day basis. Unfortunately, these pants are imported from Europe and are quite expensive. If Meir could get help purchasing these pants, his quality of life would be greatly improved.
