Mattress for Sophie

Marina, 42, is raising three teenaged children on her own. Marina does her best to make ends meet; she works part-time as an aide to the disabled. Because of her role as a single mother and because of various physical ailments, Marina cannot work more hours. She supports herself and her children on her income and a monthly government stipend.
Marina’s three-room apartment is clean and tidy but sparsely furnished. Social services is helping wherever they can, but Marina is still lacking many basic necessities. One of her most desperate needs right now is a mattress for her 15-year-old daughter, Sophie, who is currently sleeping on the living room sofa.
