Heater for Clara

Clara often feels overwhelmed by her medical needs. After cancer treatment, which included chemotherapy and radiation, she still takes follow-up medications. She suffers from severe back and leg pain, as well as from a broken hand, and is recovering from surgery for a broken foot. It is hard for her to get about and to take care of herself.

Her husband died 16 years ago, after a long illness. Clara has no income other than her State old age pension. She tries to stretch this to cover her medical needs, her bus rides to the hospital, and her regular monthly costs, but this often does not leave enough for food. Clara needs dental treatment and new glasses, but cannot afford these, so manages without them. Recently, the old water heater for her apartment broke. It can no longer be repaired, but without it, Clara has no hot water. She does not have the money for a new one and cannot manage without this during the winter months.
