In the past, Rivka, 55, suffered serious abuse from her husband. They are now divorced. Rivka is in poor physical health and cannot work. She receives a very small handicapped stipend from the government; it is nowhere near sufficient to cover her needs.

Rivka has five children. The oldest two are married with several small children and little money themselves, so they cannot help her. The youngest two live at home and earn little or nothing. Recently Rivka was diagnosed with hearing problems, but she cannot come close to meeting the cost of the hearing aides that would allow her to function and manage each day.
