Ruchama worked at a hospital for many years and had a steady income. However, her husband has ALS and of late, his deterioration has been rapid. He can no longer be left alone in the house because he has lost all ability to care for himself.
Ruchama has had to quit her job in order to be his full-time caretaker. This has thrown them into financial crisis. Now their only income is his social security stipend, which is not large enough to cover the needs of the couple and their four children, ages 14 to 6.
Despite the difficulty, Ruchama has tried to remain upbeat, and she keeps the house clean and neat. However, their old refrigerator has now broken beyond repair, and they need a new one so that the six of them can manage to eat properly.
