Fridge for Frieda and her Family
Frieda is a single mom with three daughters, ages 12, 8, and 3. She grew up in a home so fraught with abuse that she and her brother were removed from their parents’ custody. She’s suffered through abusive relationships with her daughters’ fathers. Despite difficult beginnings, Frieda is a dedicated and hard-working mom. She worked full time until her youngest was diagnosed with optical cancer (retinoblastoma).
Frieda’s daughter has had treatment and surgery and now has a prosthetic eye. She attends a daycare for children recovering from cancer and needs regular checkups. Frieda hopes to return to the workforce as soon as her daughter is fully healed. In the meantime she receives additional governmental disability support to provide for herself and her girls.
Frieda does her best to make the funds stretch, but they really need a new fridge. Their current model is small, and hardly holds enough for four people including three growing children. The fridge is also old and often shorts the electricity in the apartment. With no savings or support, and her daughter with special needs, Frieda cannot afford a new or larger fridge.
