Esther used to work full time in a communications office, but was fired after she had to bring her newborn to work because she could not afford daycare. She is now at home with the infant, with no income and no means of support.

Recently Esther was given a public housing apartment, and she and her daughter have moved in. However, Esther, 24, has almost no furniture and no appliances. Her most immediate need is a refrigerator, so that she can feed her daughter properly and not have to run to the supermarket every day. But Esther has no way to buy one.
