Computer for Rose
Rose is eight years old and lives with her other Olga who is 27. Olga raises Rose alone and although Rose sees her father from time to time, he does not support her or Olga financially. Olga works full time, but her salary is too low to cover the needs of a family of two, no matter how careful they are with their money.
Olga is a devoted mother and Rose has a bed, games, and books. The house is clean and orderly. Because of the gaps in her own language and education, Olga cannot help Rose with her homework. Since the coronavirus crisis, much of Rose’s schooling has been on Zoom and since they have no computer in the home, Rose has not been able to participate.
Rose was a diligent student but without access to a computer she cannot keep up and Olga sees the fear and insecurity in her daughter’s eyes when they talk about going back to school. While Olga recognizes the importance of having a computer in the home, even for herself, she does not have the money to purchase one.
