Computer for Moshe
Tikva, 42, came to Israel from Ethiopia when she was 25. She has a seven-year- old son and is on good terms with his father, who pays monthly child support. Eighteen months ago, Tikva was diagnosed with breast cancer. The treatments leave her weak and unable to do much work. She is trying to hold down a part-time job but doing so leaves her exhausted.
Tikva is a devoted mother who tries to support her son Moshe, who has both learning and social issues. Making things worse, Moshe’s school requires all students to download homework assignments from a central online site, to do much of their homework online and to submit assignments electronically. Tikva does not have the money for a computer. This makes it even harder for her son to close his learning gaps and keep up in school.
