Fridge for Liat’s Family
Liat, 48, has been the only wage earner in her family for years. Her husband is addicted to gambling, drugs, and alcohol and is so abusive that when their now 20-year old son enlisted in the Army, he felt that he had to cut off all contact with the family just to protect himself. There are still three children living at home, ages 18, 16, and 15.
Liat did household work but recently lost her job as a result of the many absences that she had to take in order to care for her husband. Now the family has no income at all. Just when they felt that things could get no worse, their refrigerator broke. It was more than 15 years old and the technician told them that there was no way to repair it. They desperately need a new one, but have no money for it.
