Beds for Miriam and her son
Miriam, 42, is going through a very rough time. Eight years ago, Miriam took her two children and ran to a battered women’s shelter. For 15 years, she suffered physical abuse at the hands of her husband and finally took action.
Miriam has always been gainfully employed. She had her own independent wig business for ten years; she then worked at a cake decorating factory for three years and, when she moved, worked as a substitute teacher.
Two years ago, Miriam remarried. Unfortunately, after only six weeks, she discovered that she had once again entered into an abusive marriage. She left with her children and moved in with her single brother.
Last month, Miriam’s divorce was finally recognized, after she had to pay her husband 15,000 NIS. She also moved into a rental apartment with her children. Miriam now finds herself in a financial crisis as she had to take out a loan in order to cover these expenses.
To make matters worse, Miriam lost a month’s income when she recently fell ill with Corona. She then suffered a herniated disc and had to quit her job because of the pain.
Miriam has now been without an income for a number of months. She is determined, however, to get back on her feet. In the meantime, her and her son desperately need new beds, as the ones they’re sleeping on are unstable. A good night’s sleep would do wonders for their quality of life.
