Bed for Meir
63-year-old Lily stays awake nights worrying that her 26-year old autistic son, Meir, can’t sleep on his unstable bed and worn out mattress.
She has 10 children, but Meir is the only one living at home. The others are rarely around and, despite their mother’s desperate financial straits, they do not have any money with which to help her.
After years of being subject to physical and emotional abuse by her husband, she is in the midst of a divorce. Just prior to the beginning of the divorce proceedings, Lily had married off three of her children.
The situation – both the weddings and the cost of the divorce – has left Lily with very little money. She works full time but her earnings are a fraction of her expenses. Lily has many needs at the moment, but she believes that she will at least feel better if Meir had a proper bed.
