Bed for David
David, 70, has had a very difficult life. His mother was blind and suffered from mental illness; he had no contact with his father. Because of David’s complicated home life, the government appointed him a legal guardian until he turned 18. Despite his difficult background, David completed his full army service in a combat unit. At the age of 25, he was diagnosed with psychological and emotional disabilities and could no longer work.
Today, in addition to his pre-existing conditions, David is battling cardiac illness and diabetes. He recently underwent bypass surgery which has left him very weak.
Because he had to stop working at a young age, David never accumulated any sort of pension funds. He now survives on a small monthly government stipend. In addition to his day-to-day living expenses, David is also paying off bank loans that he has taken out over the years. He literally lives from hand to mouth.
David is sleeping on a very old bed with a sagging mattress. This has only exacerbated his poor physical condition. David cannot afford a new bed, but a good night’s sleep would go a long way towards improving his quality of life.
