Assistance for residents remaining in Kiryat Shmona
In normal circumstances, Kiryat Shmona boasts a population of 28,000. Today, the population is 3,500.
As tensions rose in the North, Kiryat Shmona was forced to completely evacuate its residents for their own safety. These evacuees are now living in 271 hotels around the country.
However, the 3,500 residents who have been unable to leave are the ones who don’t make the news. These residents include some of the most vulnerable populations: the elderly, dialysis patients, sick children, and single mothers from impoverished backgrounds. They are overwhelmed by their situation and are left with no choice but to stay put.
As the never-ending barrage of rocket fire from Hezbollah continues, these individuals find themselves spending most of their time in the public miklatim, or safe rooms. These safe rooms are sturdy but empty and while the residents are safe, they suffer from the freezing conditions.
Rabbi Yigal Tzipori, the head of Chabad in Kiryat Shmona, in collaboration with the city council, is seeking assistance to improve the living conditions in the public shelters and some safe rooms. Their goal is to acquire heaters, generators, blankets, microwave ovens, washing machines, and refrigerators for each public shelter and safe room housing residents. These essential items will greatly enhance the comfort and long term well-being of these vulnerable citizens as the war continues.
Our goal is to raise 126,000 shekels towards the purchase of these items.
